Required Courses

Political Science Major
(39 credits, 13 classes)

Students may transfer a maximum of 6 courses (18 credits) from an external academic institution

students must earn at least a ‘C’ in a course for it to count towards completion of the major.

All students declaring a Political Science major in Fall 2016 or later will fall under the new major requirements described below.

(Political Science majors who have begun their course of studies prior to Fall 2016 should see the Department Chair to confirm their requirements.

The Political Science major requires 39 Credits (13 courses) as follows:
INTRODUCTORY COURSES (6 credits – 2 courses)
790:101 – Introduction to Politics
790:102 – The Study of Politics

SUBFIELDS COURSES (18 credits – 6 courses)
2 Courses from American Politics & Public Policy
2 Courses from International Politics
2 Courses from Political Theory & Methodology

ELECTIVE COURSES (15 credits – 5 courses)
Elective courses may include:

  • Internships
  • Study Abroad
  • Independent Studies
  • Honors Seminars and Theses

General Political Science Minor
(18 credits, 6 classes)

students must earn at least a ‘C’ in a course for it to count towards completion of the minor

Introduction to Politics (790:101)
-1 courses in American Politics & Public Policy
-1 courses in International Politics
-1 courses in Political Theory & Methodology
-2 additional electives

-all courses must be offered through the Rutgers-Camden Political Science Department; department chair approval required for online classes offered at any Rutgers Campus

International Politics Minor
(18 credits, 6 classes)

students must earn at least a ‘C’ in a course for it to count towards completion of the minor

-6 courses in International Politics

-all courses must be offered through the Rutgers-Camden Political Science Department; department chair approval required for online classes offered at any Rutgers Campus

Public Administration and Government Service Minor
(18 credits, 6 classes)

students must earn at least a ‘C’ in a course for it to count towards completion of the minor

Principles of Public Administration (790:342)
-4 courses in American Politics & Public Policy
-Internship arranged under either Practical Politics (790:296) or Individual Internship in Political Science (790:397)

-all courses must be offered through the Rutgers-Camden Political Science Department; department chair approval required for online classes offered at any Rutgers Campus
